Article Summary

U.S. News Student Connect has several lead tracking sources, including the Compare Tool and Saved Schools. Through the integration described in this article, U.S. News Student Connect can send lead data from students and parents who have shown interest in your institution.

The standard resources necessary for this integration include:

  • U.S. News Student Connect Service Account user account: Grants U.S. News Student Connect access to deliver files to your database

  • U.S. News Student Connect Leads source format: Imports the data delivered by U.S. News Student Connect

Add the U.S. News Student Connect Service Account

  1. Select Database from the top navigation.

  2. Under Configurations, select Slate Template Library.

  3. Add the U.S. News Student Connect Service Account user account in the Users section. This user account has all of the necessary configurations for U.S. News Student Connect to deliver files, do not make changes to this user account.

Note: If you do not see the U.S. News Student Connect Service Account, refresh the Slate Template Library using the refresh the Slate Template Library link at the top of the page.

Create a U.S. News Student Connect ID field

U.S. News Student Connect stores a unique ID for each record in their system. This ID is sent in their data feed and can be used for matching purposes when sending updated data. Use the following steps to create this custom, unique for merging field:

  1. Select Database from the top navigation.

  2. In the Records section, select Fields.

  3. Click New Field.

  4. Create a field with the following settings:
    Scope: Person
    Field Type: Free Text
Unique for Merging: Value contains a unique ID that identifies a single record for merging
The ID and name can be configured as desired.

  5. Click Save.

Add the U.S. News Student Connect Leads Source Format

  1. Select Database from the top navigation.

  2. In the Import section, select Source Format Library.

  3. Add the U.S. News Student Connect Leads (CSV) source format.

  4. On the U.S. News Student Connect Leads source format landing page, select the View link under Web Services to capture the endpoint to provide to U.S. News Student Connect. The endpoint is located on the Certificate-Based Authentication tab. This endpoint needs to be provided to U.S. News Student Connect to configure the integration.

  5. Configure the Remap settings once a file has been delivered. Standard items that can be used for record creation and matching have been pre-mapped.

Remember to map the user_id source field to the custom unique field created earlier.

Note: U.S. News Student Connect sends data for multiple types of records, including "student," "parent," "school_admin," and "other." To selectively import records based on this source field value, you can map the person_type source field to System > Custom: Skip Import, and on the Value Mappings page, indicate which of the values should be used to determine if the row should be skipped during the import. For example, to import any records except "school_admin," use the following configuration:

  6. Once you are satisfied with the Remap settings, return to the source format's landing page.

  7. Click Edit on the upper right of the page.

  8. Update the Remap Active value to Active.
