Advancement databases are segmented into three primary datasets:
Persons
Companies and Foundations
Funds
Before becoming operational, these datasets will need to be populated with data from a legacy system. Slate's Upload Dataset tool will be critical in importing records to these datasets.
As part of a comprehensive data migration strategy, the initial import to these datasets should be segmented into a hierarchy of data priority. Meaning, this initial populating of the datasets should only include core data elements. Core data elements can include:
Unique field (ie: Advance ID, Colleague ID, etc.)
Name
Date of Birth
Email
Address(s)
Phone
This initial upload will establish the records within Slate. By including the unique field, subsequent imports will match directly on these existing records. The complete process of importing core data is described in Importing Current Person Data. Information specific to importing to the Companies and Foundations dataset and the Funds dataset can be found here.
