Article Summary

Once read-only SFTP User Access is provisioned, you can begin exploring SFTP folders and accessing files. SFTP folders and files may be viewed and/or downloaded by:

  • Selecting Database on the top navigation bar and selecting SFTP Explorer

-or-

  • Connecting through a client that supports the SFTP protocol, such as WinSCP or FileZilla

The SFTP folder contains an incoming and outgoing folder. Slate queries automatically export to the outgoing folder.

Note: In the test environment, the SFTP incoming folder is created when Slate picks up files for import. Until then, the folder will not appear in the SFTP Explorer.

SFTP explorer provides a read-only view of the SFTP along with the ability to download the files.
You cannot create folders, files, etc. via SFTP explorer.

To create folders:

1. Connect to your Slate SFTP folders via an external program such as WinSCP, FileZilla, or other SFTP program and create the subfolders.

2. Create the subfolder under /incoming/ via a source format import automation tab:

3. Select edit of an existing source format and under path add the subfolder followed by a / and select Save.

If the specified folder does not exist, the folder will be created.

4. Create the subfolder under outgoing via the path setting in a scheduled export:

5. Add the subfolder to the path and save the Scheduled Export. Slate will then create the subfolder specified.

Once the folders exist the user will be able to connect to the SFTP site.

By default, the SFTP Explorer will show up to 500 files within a given directory, and it is not possible to change this setting. The 500 file limit only applies to what is shown on the screen, so it can still search a directory that contains more than 500 files, and you will see up to 500 matching results. Also, Slate does not delete files when you hit a certain number of files. Instead, files older than 30 days may be removed from the SFTP servers at any time, as the SFTP servers are intended for file delivery only and not for permanent data storage.
